I have been involved with blood taking from pregnant mares in the farm Stóridalur for years. I like working with the mares. The mares must be pregnant when the blood is taken from them because they produce valuable hormones at a certain time of the gestation. As a horse-person and an animal lover I cannot see anything wrong with taking blood from pregnant mares, as long as the mares are taken good care of at all times. A vet administers the phlebotomy so that action is completly professional. I have put on my webpage a series of photos that I took at Stóridalur a short while ago, where the blood taking process is photographed from A to Z.
