18.12.2007 We ordered a bitless bridle earlier this fall, from bitlessbridle.com. We have been using it just a little bit this fall, and we like it with certain kinds of horses. The bitless bridle is a success with sensitive horses who are stressed, scared of bits, or very unhappy with bits. We do find though, that it doesn’t do much for unsensitive horses that are heavy on the reins. It is good to give cues with it, which is a good quality with bridles. It is possible to use the inside and outside rein in similar way as with normal bridle, and it gives very little pressure on the nose of the horse. Some horses can be sensitive to that. Sibba has used the bitless bridle on her horse Bessi frá Sóleyjarbakka with good results. However, we do still belive that a normal bridle is the best bridle equipment if it is used correctly. It is still good to have the bitless bridle to use for the right occation, and it is normally used at least once a day with some horse. In the picture is Bessi with the bitless bridle. | ![]() |
